Strong Organizations are Built, not Born How beYOUnd is Growing with the Support of Vidnova Support Fund

What makes a nonprofit organization truly efficient? Is it ideas, the team, or donor support? Actually, the answer is way broader than that. A strong organization starts with a system — clear workflows, a well-defined strategy, effective communication, and a team that’s constantly learning.  Thanks to the financial support of the Vidnova Support Fund, the beYOUnd team completed several training programs in just a few months, each of which offered a new perspective on organizational development.

The first step was redefining communication. That’s why beYOUnd’s communications department took part in an SMM-intensive course by Philanthropy in Ukraine, during which the team gained a fresh perspective on the role of social media. After all, it’s not just a place to post updates or photos from events. It’s a tool that helps build trust and foster the community the organization works to serve.

The training didn’t just give us new tools—it helped us develop a systematic approach to communication.” Vika, Communications Assistant at beYOUnd

We learned to approach communication strategically, work with storytelling, create visual content, use Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn more efficiently, and build partnerships.

Still, external communication is only part of the equation. Understanding where the organization itself is headed is just as important.

Mentoring on organizational development became a separate focus area. We continued our collaboration with our mentor Anhelina, with whom we met during the Let’s NGO program. She supported us during the implementation of our first grant, and now she’s helping the team delve deeper into fundraising, grant writing, and the organization’s strategic development. Together, we reviewed our goals, defined development priorities, and tried to answer some tough questions: what problem are we solving, who are we working for, and what changes do we hope to achieve in the near future?

“What I like most about working with Anhelina is that we’re diving into areas we hadn’t even thought about before. It’s great for reflection,”Yasia, Manager of Local Projects in Ukraine at beYOUnd

Meanwhile, our project manager is taking a course at Laba on grant management, fundraising, and crowdfunding. This new knowledge helps us plan projects more effectively, secure funding, and build a more sustainable model for the organization’s development. After all, a successful project isn’t a matter of chance — it’s the result of well-structured processes.

The course is very useful thanks to its multi-layered structure—it allows you to explore different approaches to fundraising and understand the difference between fundraising and grant writing. I would also like to highlight that certain assignments are reviewed personally by the lecturer, which allows you to receive specific feedback and identify areas for improvement. And a very nice bonus is the international certificate you receive upon completing the course.” Rada, Project Manager at beYOUnd

The most ambitious phase was the “NGO 360” course by Philanthropy in Ukraine, which the beYOUnd project team is currently completing. We analyzed management processes, learned to assign responsibilities using the RACI matrix, simulated internal processes, and worked on a strategic framework for the organization’s development. Today, we are already moving from training to practice: we are working on developing a long-term development strategy for beYOUnd and creating internal policies that will make the organization’s work even more structured, transparent, and sustainable.

A separate module covered financial management, grant reporting, monitoring and evaluation of results, procurement in accordance with international standards, working with statutory documents, and tools that help the team work more efficiently—from modern management services to artificial intelligence capabilities.

“I really liked the idea of the course covering all aspects of a nonprofit’s work. In my opinion, it’s very important to see the big picture and, for example, have a basic understanding of reporting or project management, even if you work exclusively with communications and social media.” — Bohdana, Project Assistant at beYOUnd

Nevertheless, the main outcome of this training isn’t measured by the number of certificates earned or the list of modules completed.

It lies in the fact that our team at beYOUnd has started to view our work differently. We’ve begun to pay more attention to planning, data-driven decision-making, the distribution of responsibilities, the development of partnerships, and long-term strategy.

For the public sector, this is particularly important. After all, today’s challenges require not only a quick response but also strong organizations capable of operating consistently, transparently, and effectively over many years.

For beYOUnd, this training was not an endpoint but the beginning of a new phase of more systematic, more conscious, and more ambitious development.

This educational program was made possible thanks to the support of the Vidnova Support Fund.
